Unlock the profound reward of raising your own carnivorous wonderland entirely from scratch! This premium Sundew Seed 2-Pack provides you with two separate, high-viability seed lots—each containing 50+ freshly harvested, microscopic seeds. By combining two of the most resilient, adaptable, and voracious sundew species in the world, this kit allows you to propagate hundreds of heavy-performance traps to guard your collection against invading pests.

What’s Inside the Collection:

  • Drosera spatulata (Spoonleaf Sundew): Celebrated for its flawless geometric beauty. It forms low-profile, ground-hugging, highly symmetrical rosettes of spoon-shaped leaves that transform into glittering jewels of deep crimson under intense light.

  • Drosera intermedia (Oblong-leaved Sundew): A dynamic variety that throws up elegant, semi-erect, spoon-to-oblong leaves. It creates an excellent texturized aesthetic in community bog displays while weaving an aggressive aerial trap grid for small flying bugs.

The Science of Germination: Light Triggers & Hormone Pathways

Carnivorous plant seeds operate entirely differently from standard garden seeds, utilizing precise evolutionary adaptations to ensure survival in the bogs:

  1. The Photoblastic Light Trigger: Sundew seeds are positively photoblastic, meaning they require absolute exposure to high-intensity light to break their internal dormancy and trigger germination. Never bury these seeds under the soil! They must be surface-sown directly under strong lighting to activate the plant's growth response.

  2. The Nutrient-Deficient Matrix: In nature, these seeds fall onto mineral-bare, damp peat bogs. They carry just enough internal energy reserves to push out their first tiny, microscopic carnivorous leaves. The moment they sprout, they bypass traditional root feeding and instantly deploy miniature, glistening dew drops to capture micro-pests for nourishment.

  3. The Auxiliary Jasmonate Grid: As these tiny seedlings mature, their internal Jasmonate (JA) signaling pathway develops rapidly. Once a seedling trap catches its first microscopic gnat or springtail, this hormone network transitions the plant into an active digestive state, sending a surge of nutrients to the roots to explosively fuel adult rosette development.

Propagation & Sowing Guide

Because both species share highly overlapping, cooperative sub-tropical and temperate bog parameters, starting them simultaneously is straightforward:

  • Sowing Method: Pre-moisten your soil mix and carefully scatter the microscopic seeds directly onto the surface. Do not cover the seeds with substrate.

  • Light: Place the sowing container under a high-output LED grow light (5000K–6500K) for 14–16 hours daily, or sit them on a very sunny south-facing windowsill. Bright light is mandatory to awaken the seeds.

  • Water & Humidity: Keep the substrate continuously waterlogged using the tray method by sitting the pot in 1 inch of pure water (distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater only). Cover the pot with a clear plastic dome or zip-top bag to maintain near-100% humidity until the tiny green rosettes emerge.

  • Substrate: Use an unfertilized, strictly nutrient-deficient media mix of 1:1 pure peat moss and perlite or coarse silica sand. Standard potting soils or fertilizers will completely destroy the seeds and seedlings.
