Cape Sundew - Drosera Capensis
The Cape Sundew is a native of South Africa, found in the region around the city of Cape Town. This variety features a narrow, oblong leaf that is covered with the small, dew-tipped appendages that signify the Drosera family. The leaves of Drosera Capensis and the dewy appendages work together to complete the task of catching and consuming prey. When prey lands on the leaves of Drosera Capensis it finds itself stuck on the dewy appendages. The leaves can then curl around the captured prey, preventing any escape and facilitating digestion.
Drosera Capensis is a fast growing, easy to cultivate Carnivorous plant. These two characteristics make it wonderful for beginner growers. This species cultivates best in warm-temperate conditions and can be grown inside or outside in areas with a suitable climate. They can survive brief periods of extreme cold and heat which allows them to brave winters with below freezing temperatures and summers that reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. These characteristics make them one of the most hardy varieties of Drosera and perfect for first time growers as well as experienced lovers of Carnivorous plants.
